Hello, I'm Gill a celebrant trained and accredited by Humanists UK.
Originally born and brought up in Yorkshire, my family and I have been in Cumbria for over 15 years. My background is in Law, my degree is from Sheffield University and that is where I practiced until I became a full-time Mum to three children - and whatever anyone says I firmly believe that stay at home parenting is far more difficult and challenging than anything the commercial world has in store!
Once the children had grown, I re-trained and began working with dogs, in breeding Grand Basset Griffon Vendéen, basic training and working with canine behavioural issues. The key to this was not so much training the dogs but understanding the people that I encountered, and finding a solution to help them understand and train their dogs in a more intuitive and co-operative way.
My life experiences have been rich and varied but what shines through for me is a love of people, I love to hear the stories that really bring people to life and to share the emotional rollercoaster that is life.
This love of people, together with a natural curiosity and passion for literature and learning enables me to listen and write thoughtful, empathetic ceremonies woven together with music, prose and poetry and contributions from close family and friends into something truly magical.
This is my dream job, it is a privilege to meet people at all stages of their lives and to hear their very real, diverse, intriguing and inspiring life stories. Creating personal and memorable ceremonies from these stories is a joy and I love to weave the words, the music and the emotion into something that uniquely captures the very essence of a person.
We all make connections in our lives and it is the precious nature of these connections, the love, the beauty and the compassion that make us who we are. For me, meeting people at key points in their lives, often when they are feeling vulnerable, is incredibly humbling whilst also being an
uplifting and powerful tribute to the absolute strength of human nature.
My friends describe me as a warm, sensitive, approachable and compassionate person and I bring this to my professional life, together with the relaxed, capable and organisational qualities of my training resulting in someone who is fully able to support and guide you through life's great ceremonies with understanding, tact and diplomacy - and a sense of fun.
What matter to me is creating a unique and authentic ceremony that is right, for you, your family and your friends.
